As a political scientist, I believe the exchange between civil society, political institutions, and the scientific community is crucial for fostering informed decision-making and promoting democratic resilience. Engaging with civil society allows researchers to ground their work in real-world concerns, understanding how policies affect individuals and communities. Meanwhile, interaction with political institutions enables science to shape policy by offering evidence-based insights that can lead to more effective governance. Finally, collaboration within the scientific community ensures a continual refinement of knowledge, driven by diverse perspectives and critical peer review. Bridging these three sectors strengthens the link between theory and practice, ensuring that research not only explains political phenomena but also contributes to solving societal challenges. In today’s increasingly complex world, this multidirectional dialogue is essential for developing sustainable solutions and enhancing public trust in both institutions and the scientific process.
Furthermore, civic education plays a vital role in empowering individuals to engage actively in democratic processes and make informed decisions. By fostering an understanding of political systems, rights, and responsibilities, civic education strengthens participation and accountability in society. Web competence is an important part of democratic competence in the 20st century. This is why I regularly offer talks, trainings, and workshops for different societal groups on the importance of digital literacy for citizens in democracies. I collaborate with different civic education agencies to realize these events.
Collaboration with media representatives is equally important, as they serve as a bridge between academic research, policy developments, and the public. Through responsible and transparent reporting, the media can disseminate key political insights, promoting civic engagement and ensuring that the public remains well-informed on critical issues. I greatly appreciate the essential role journalists play in supporting pluralism and democracy. I am always willing to participate in interviews and provide background information whenever possible.
